Description and Objectives

Solina is supporting the implementation of the mass administration of azithromycin through the Safety and Antimicrobial Resistance of Mass Administration of Azithromycin (SARMAAN) project. As part of this initiative, Solina is leading the implementation of MDA activities in Kano State to address child health challenges. The project aims to achieve high treatment coverage, improve community awareness, and ensure efficient program execution in collaboration with key stakeholders. The Kano State Lead will oversee all project activities, providing strategic direction and ensuring alignment with the overall objectives of the SARMAAN project.

Position description

The Kano State Lead will provide strategic leadership, coordination, and oversight for all project activities in the state. This includes ensuring effective planning, execution, and monitoring of the MDA campaign while working closely with the program manager, government stakeholders, relevant partners, and local teams. The State Lead will also ensure that all activities are implemented in compliance with project protocols, ethical guidelines, and safety standards. Furthermore, the State Lead will be responsible for fostering collaboration among stakeholders, addressing challenges, and ensuring the timely delivery of project goals. 

Technical Responsibilities

1. Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of the SARMAAN MDA-AZM implementation in Kano State, ensuring alignment with project goals and timelines;
2. Work closely with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KNSPHCMB) and other relevant health authorities to ensure seamless implementation;
3. Provide leadership and oversight to field teams conducting drug distribution, community mobilization, and awareness activities;
4. Supervise data collection, monitoring, and reporting activities, ensuring high-quality and timely submission of program data;
5. Conduct real-time data analysis and visualization using online dashboards to track program performance and support evidence-based decision-making;
6. Identify program gaps, challenges, and risks, and develop solutions in collaboration with key stakeholders;
7. Coordinate advocacy and stakeholder engagement efforts to ensure strong political and community support for the MDA campaign;
8. Ensure adherence to all ethical guidelines, safety protocols, and standard operating procedures for the MDA campaign;
9. Prepare and present periodic reports on program performance, challenges, and achievements to donors, partners and relevant stakeholders;
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Director.

Qualifications & Experience

1. Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred) in the field of health management, public health or a related field; 
2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare management or public health, with a focus on PHC;
3. Strong knowledge of the healthcare landscape in the state; 
4. Proven leadership and project management skills.
